I have two failed book clubs under my belt, so I thought third times the charm…right?
As most of you know (and if you don’t), I love books and reading. I’ve been reading since I was young. When I was in middle and high school, reading was an escape for me. In my earlier journals I talked a lot about how my family would constantly get mad at me for locking myself up in my room to read all day. It was much better than real life at the time.
Book clubs are great. I love them. I love talking about the text we all just read together and picking it apart and putting our own spin on things. Geeking out over the couple in the romance novel or theorizing how magic works in a fantasy. My favorite thing is figuring out what I’m supposed to take from each book and how it makes me feel by the end. The best part is discussing this with other people who read the book in real time.
As I stated in the beginning of this post – I have two failed book clubs. The first one involved a friendship fallout, and the second one put pressure on me to finish the books. Not by the club members, but from myself. If a time period is put on things, I start to feel overwhelmed and then clam up. I’m not the fastest reader.
Which brings us to me starting my own book club called Between Worlds. A play on leaving your real life behind and diving into the books we read. It’s a book club where we only read fiction and it all takes place on Discord (for free!)
This book club is for the people who don’t want to put pressure on themselves and/or don’t want to join monthly meetups. We all know how busy our schedules can get in the blink of an eye. In the club, every month we assign a new book via a member poll. There is a dedicated discussion forum on Discord to type your thoughts and feelings at any time when reading the monthly book. You don’t have to read at the same pace as everyone else, and if you need more than a month to finish the book, the discussions will always be there for you to add to.
Monthly hangouts can absolutely happen if the members feel like they want to discuss the previous book. Hangouts would happen via Discord. Nobody is obligated to come and talk! You can come and listen, or participate if you want to. It’s really laid back. I won’t revoke your book club badge if you never participate.
Not going to lie, I’m very excited for this. I love being surrounded by people who share the same interests as me, and reading sits at the top. Nothing beats finishing a book and immediately wanting to talk about it with your friends.
So, come hangout. Join the club and sit back and relax while we discuss our favorite books. Meet new people. It’s a free and no-commitment zone. Leave whenever you please. But you may find yourself in it for the long haul.

See you in Between Worlds!
