What is The Orbit Theory?

You might not even know what this is, but the odds of you being a victim to the orbit theory are high. So let me tell you about it.

The Orbit Theory in life is a little self explanatory. It’s the act of orbiting or circulating something subconsciously. The way I’m going to talk about it in this post is describing how we repeat or orbit ideas of the life we want to live, without actually living that life.

To be honest, the first time I heard about this was in a YouTube video. And then I listened to a Podcast where the person asked “Do you have a business or are you pretending to act like a business?” At first I was a little offended because at the time I had a “business.” I put in the hours, I did the work, but in reality, I had nothing to show for it.

Why?

Because I never pulled the trigger.

I was constantly “setting up” that business and never acted on it. I did put the hours into it and I did the work, but all of it was in preparation to start the business. I felt like I was moving forward when in fact I was just spinning my wheels. It lead to burnout and the eventual dismantle of the business. I can talk about this in another post later. It was my first greatest accomplishment and failure.

How often do you find yourself wanting something more out of your life? Or wanting to change something in your career or your relationship or for yourself? Then you prepare for it. Smaller steps that feel like moving in the right direction, but if you took those smaller steps out, you wouldn’t feel any different. That’s the Orbit Theory.

Be honest with yourself; you’re orbiting the life you want.

You have a vision for what you want or want to change, but you have yet to pull the trigger. I get it – being comfortable and the idea of failure will have us in this perpetual infinite loop until the day we die. I’m still working on this myself.

But I need you to know that everything you want in life is right in front of you. You just have to take it. You have to break that cycle and make yourself uncomfortable to get it. Stop watching from the outside and be present in your life.

You’ve orbited around those wants and needs for too long now.

That book you want to write, sit down and write it. Remember that hobby you really loved but don’t have the time for anymore? Yes you absolutely do have the time if you just find it. What about the fact you want to meditate more or be better at reaching out to loved ones? Do it. No, not tomorrow – today. It’s YOUR life and nothing will change unless you change it.

Stop living in the backseat of your life. You can have everything you want.

Have you prepared to launch a business? A book? A music career? An Etsy store? What about spending all that time just looking or browsing at something you really wanted to enhance your life in some way. Stop waiting and do it. Take it.

I know this is all easier said than done, but a lot of us are just going through the motions. Why am I waiting for my weekend to enjoy life? Does life not happen any other day of the week? I’ve put myself in invisible shackles and somehow have thrown away the key.

Wanting things is scary. If you want things, you start to set yourself up for the possibility of failure. But why is that a bad thing? If you fail, you’ve gained knowledge on how not to do it that way the next time.

Say you try a new hobby for a bit and didn’t like it. You’re not a failure and you didn’t waste time. You discovered what you don’t like, and gained knowledge on a new craft. You know a little more about who you are.

Not to keep beating the dead horse but there is just so much out there for you if you just left that orbit. Break the cycle. Get uncomfortable. Go through some trial and error. Put out your art even if it scares you. Start that new business even if you’re not 100% sure.

If you made a montage of your life right now, would you want to watch it?
